Introduction of Habitat Environmental Infrastructure in China

Infrastructure is an important foundation to promote economic and social development, its completeness and service level would determine the economic development quality, social welfare standard and environmental sustainability of a country (region). Since 1940’s, infrastructure has gradually expanded from military infrastructure, electricity and transportation infrastructure to that includes information and logistics infrastructure. Since the year 2000, with green development becoming a common theme around the world, the importance and urgency for the construction of habitat environmental infrastructure is getting increasingly prominent.

The habitat environmental infrastructure is people oriented, it could provide convenience to residents and create clean and healthy environment.

The study has established a comprehensive development index of habitat environmental infrastructure. On the basis of the development index, the study evaluates the development of habitat environmental infrastructure in China on macro and regional levels, and analyzes the overall development level, regional and urban-rural differences and investment structure as well.

Through combination of new management ideas and innovative technologies, the study would promote the planning and management of infrastructure construction, and provide reasonable suggestions for future infrastructure to improve the quality of people's livelihood and reduce environmental pollution. Moreover, it calls on people to pay attention to habitat and environmental infrastructure, focus on the current role and operating mechanism of the related infrastructure in environmental protection and people’s well-being.

This study is one of the series reports on Green Development and Infrastructure. It is expected that the study would provide a preliminary understanding of the current status of habitat environmental infrastructure in China. Furthermore, we are open for communication and cooperation, and sincerely invite more stakeholders to participate the promotion of infrastructure construction and green development.
