Background Information
The year 2017 has been affected by extreme temperatures, destructive hurricanes and weather patterns and above all the first rise in CO2 emissions since four years. Biodiversity is being lost at mass-extinction rates, agricultural systems are under strain and air and sea pollution of have become increasingly a threat to human health. The need to join hands for the implementation of the SDGs and the Paris Agreement has become the focus of many global meetings and leadership events. Chinese President Xi Jinping delivered a speech at the UN in Geneva in January 2017, in which he outlined and reaffirmed China’s commitment towards eco-civilization. In particular, President Xi declared that ‘We should pursue green, low carbon, recycling and sustainable way of life and production, to advance the 2030 agenda’. In October 2017, the report of the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC), characterized the building of an ecological civilization as ‘vital to sustain the Chinese nation’s development’, ‘China has become an important participant, contributor, and torchbearer in the global endeavour for eco-civilization’.

We need stand together to implement the SDGs and Pairs Agreement, to achieve emission reduction targets and seeking for better environment protection as well as better nature conservation. We must realize that lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets and act on this understanding.
